Excellent! September 2, 2010 Mike This is an incredible suspense thriller that caught me with a few unexpected twists. You really get a feel for the characters and the story moves along very nicely. All in all, it is one of the best books I have read in a very long time.
Great, engaging read! September 2, 2010 Lucy I couldn't put this book down and luckily I didn't have to! Larsson does a great job of weaving an intricate story around unique cast of characters. Without giving anything away I especially liked how the story didn't just end with the mystery.
Good characters but overrated September 1, 2010 Andrea (Ontario, Canada) Given the amount of hype surrounding the Millennium Trilogy, I had high expectations when this novel got picked for my book club. Unfortunately, I was disappointed. The novel started off with a lot of information to absorb at once, most of which ended up being irrelevant. The pacing was awkward since it started off that way, then got intriguing, then got bogged down by too much detail again. By the time the mystery was solved, it was already pretty clear what the twist was going to be and some of the details seemed included just for the shock value. Larssons writing style didnt really do it for me; his constant need to specify the exact brand or model of everything the characters are using drove me crazy.
Despite the criticisms, though, I will say that Larsson has created some interesting characters, especially Lisbeth Salander. I was interested enough in her that I ended up reading The Girl Who Played With Fire, which turned out to be a much more satisfying read.
So what more could you ask? August 31, 2010 Ned Middleton (British professional underwater photo-journalist & author) I read so many books relating to scuba diving, ships, the sea and so forth and rarely have time for fiction. I was, however, stuck on board a diving safari boat recently and unable to dive for about 5 days. Consequently, I finished reading almost every book on that boat - including this one. Perhaps I might suggest any potential reader to ask themselves; What is it I really want from any novel? A well written work, exciting, a viable plot, believability, characters you can love as well as some you can hate, to be entertained, not wanting to put it down - are just some of my own thoughts. Of all the attributes which may be levelled at any enjoyable work I think; "Missing the book once it is finished" is about the best recommendation of all and I cannot honestly remember being as disappointed at having finished any book as I was with this one - simply because I did not want the experience to end.
The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is an established best-seller and that means a lot of people have bought it. I can only suggest they did so because it is a book which gets into your psyche straight away. There are people for whom you feel sorry, people you fear for and, of course, those you will instantly dislike. Together they form an excellent blend (and "blend" they do!) to provide a fascinating insight into a world that will be new to most of us at least.
The rape scene is neither relevant nor is it well portrayed by the author but, if you are able to forgive this one imperfection, it does not detract from am otherwise excellent work.
Altogether, I rate this as a first class book by an author who is able to keep the reader guessing right up to the end and then drop a simple twist which catches us all by surprise.
So what more could you ask? Do enjoy.

A great read if you can get past the first few pages August 28, 2010 Deena (Ontario, Canada) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was ready to throw in the towel when I first started this book. The first few pages are really draggy and boring. If it wasn't for a friend urging me on and telling me "It gets better, hang in there" I would of stopped reading early on.
Boy am I glad I did. It truly is a great read. I am looking forward to seeing the movie -- didnt even know there was one actually.
Started the second book lastnight, seems a better start than the first. Cant wait to see what happens.
